When to compress PDF files
Email attachments over the size cap, upload forms that reject large files, scans that ballooned to hundreds of megabytes — compression brings them back down. Image-heavy and scanned PDFs shrink the most, often by half or more.

Frequently asked questions
Will my PDF be uploaded to a server?
No. All compression runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded, and memory is cleared when you close the page.
Why didn't my PDF shrink much?
PDFs that are mostly text and vector graphics are already small, so there is little room to compress — try the Extreme level to reduce further. Large, image-heavy or scanned PDFs compress best, often 50% or more.
Can I still select, copy, and search the text after compression?
No. This tool re-renders and re-encodes each page to shrink the file, so every page becomes an image and text is no longer selectable or searchable.
What is the difference between the three quality levels?
High quality: almost no quality loss, smaller reduction — best for printing or archiving. Recommended: the best trade-off for everyday sharing. Extreme: the smallest size with noticeable quality loss, for preview-only files.
Are encrypted PDFs supported?
Not yet. Remove the password first with our Unlock PDF tool, then compress the unlocked copy.
How many pages can I compress?
Up to 100 pages and 50 MB per file. For longer documents, split them first with our Split PDF tool, then compress the parts.
