Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Text extraction runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded anywhere.

What is detected automatically?

Headings (by relative font size), paragraphs (by line spacing), and bullet or numbered lists (by leading markers). Everything else arrives as plain paragraphs.

Are tables, columns, and images converted?

Not in this basic converter — complex tables, multi-column layouts, and images are flattened to text. For high-fidelity conversion, look for our AI-assisted mode in the future.

Why did I get almost no text?

The PDF is probably a scan — images of text with no text layer. This converter reads the text layer only; scanned PDFs need OCR first.

Is bold or italic formatting kept?

No. Reliable inline styling isn't available from the text layer at this speed, so formatting markers are not emitted. Structure (headings, lists, paragraphs) is preserved.

Which languages does the text extraction support?

Any language the PDF has a text layer for, including CJK and right-to-left scripts — extraction is a faithful read of that layer.
