When to convert PDF files to Excel
Financial reports, price lists, inventory sheets, survey exports — any table trapped in a PDF becomes usable again as real cells you can sort, filter, and recalculate.
Extraction is honest about what it can see: ruled tables are read directly, borderless or complex layouts can usually be recovered with OCR table recognition, and each PDF page lands as its own worksheet in order — page 3 becomes Sheet 3, so cross-checking a number against the original is trivial. Header rows are preserved as headers, and empty pages stay empty rather than pretending to be data.
This tool works on documents that are actually tables. If a PDF is mostly prose, there is nothing to extract — we will tell you plainly instead of producing an empty workbook.

Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded to a server?
Yes. Table extraction needs a real conversion engine on our server; the file and result are deleted as soon as you download — one hour at the latest. All purely local tools keep running in your browser.
What if my PDF has no tables?
Then there is nothing to convert, and we say so instead of giving you an empty file. Documents that are mostly text are better served by our PDF to Word tool.
My tables have no grid lines. Will they convert?
Often, yes. The standard extractor reads ruled tables; borderless or complex layouts can usually still be recovered with OCR table recognition — when the standard pass finds nothing, you will get a one-click option to try it (about 1–3 minutes).
My PDF is a scan. Can it convert?
Yes. We detect scans automatically and offer OCR table recognition: tables are recognized visually, then rebuilt as cells. It takes about 1–3 minutes for typical scans and supports up to 30 pages per file.
How many pages can I convert?
Text-based PDFs: up to 300 pages and 50 MB. Scanned files: up to 30 pages. For longer scans, split the PDF first with our Split PDF tool, then convert the parts.
Why one worksheet per page?
Because it mirrors the original: page 3 is Sheet 3, in order, with no merged mega-sheet to untangle. If you want everything in one sheet, move or append the sheets in Excel afterwards — the data is already real cells by then.
