Frequently asked questions
Is the text really removed or just covered?
Really removed. Pages with redactions are re-rendered as images with the redacted areas painted solid black — the original text, its invisible copies and the text layer cease to exist in the output file. Copy-paste and search find nothing.
What happens to pages without redactions?
They are copied losslessly — selectable text, vectors and metadata stay exactly as they were. Only the pages you actually redacted are flattened.
How does search-and-mark work?
Type a word or phrase and click Mark matches. Every text run containing it, on every page, gets a redaction box you can review, move or delete before exporting.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes — draw boxes manually over the scanned content. Automatic search needs a text layer, which scanned images don't have until they are OCR'd.
Why do redacted pages become images?
Flattening is what guarantees removal: as long as a page keeps its text layer, the hidden words could be extracted again. Re-rendering the page without them is the only approach that is secure by construction.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
